The getting-started checklist, the showcase demo dataset, and how to remove sample data cleanly.

The dashboard checklist

A fresh organization shows a getting-started checklist on the dashboard. It tracks the first real use of the essentials — creating a site, adding a location, creating an item, scanning or printing a label, and inviting a teammate — and completes automatically as you do each one. The checklist is stored with the organization (not your browser), each person can dismiss it for themselves, and demo data never ticks it: it measures your real setup.

Install the demo dataset

If you want to explore a working warehouse before entering your own data, the onboarding card offers Explore with sample data. Installing it requires an owner or administrator (the demo-data.manage permission) and an organization that has no real operational data yet — Itemra refuses to mix sample data into a live inventory.

The dataset is a small, coherent scenario: two sites (Main warehouse and Field depot), racks, bins and a receiving area, containers, 18 items with stock and movement history, suppliers, open purchase orders, a count task, a reservation and a pick list. Everything demo-owned is tracked in a manifest, and demo activity never sends webhooks, e-mails, or alerts.

While the dataset is installed, a banner reminds everyone that sample data is present. Each person can dismiss it for themselves once they've seen it — the data stays until it is actually removed.

Remove it again

When you're ready to work for real, use Remove sample data on the dashboard. Removal deletes exactly the manifest-owned records — including their movement history — and verifies stock reconciles cleanly afterwards.

If you have edited demo records or attached your own data to them, removal stops with a conflict instead of deleting anything of yours. Resolve the named dependency (move or delete your own record) and try again — the conflict is protection, not an error to work around.
