Background export jobs: the kinds catalog, job lifecycle, signed downloads, and exports as evidence.

Exports vs the export button

Report pages export the current view inline. Exports (Admin group) is the heavier machinery: full-dataset extracts — item catalog, stock by location, valuation, movement history, purchase orders, audit log, counting variance, tool registers, and more — generated as background jobs, so size never blocks the browser.

Job lifecycle

Starting an export queues a job; the job page tracks queued → running → completed, and completed jobs offer a download via a short-lived signed link. Finished exports notify through the export.ready alert kind.

The kinds you see honor your permissions and plan: audit-log exports, for instance, additionally require audit permissions and the audit-export capability.

Exports as evidence

An export is a snapshot with a timestamp — the right artifact for an auditor, an insurer, or a backup routine. Keep the scope minimal, store it per your retention policy, and remember the live system remains the source of truth: reconcile against Itemra, not against last month's file. Scheduled variants of the same extracts are covered by report subscriptions.
