Importing BOMs

Bring bills of materials in from EDA tools and spreadsheets: presets, auto-detection, mapping, and validation.

Where it lives

BOMs → Import takes a CSV of component lines and turns it into a draft BOM. It's the fast path from an EDA export or a spreadsheet to a reviewed, approvable BOM.

Presets

  • Altium and KiCad presets understand those tools' standard BOM export columns (designators, quantities, part identifiers).
  • Generic maps any tabular BOM by hand.
  • Auto-detect inspects the header row and proposes the right preset.

The columns that matter: a part identifier that resolves to your catalog (SKU or MPN), quantity, unit, reference designators, and optional alternates and notes.

Map, validate, review

After upload, the mapping step pairs file columns with BOM fields — adjust anything detection got wrong. Validation flags unknown items, missing quantities, and unit mismatches per line before anything is created; resolve them in the file or map identifiers to existing items. The import produces a draft — walk the lines, then approve when it matches the design. Nothing reaches an immutable revision without that review.
